Bio
Looking forward to playing a full season without injury and
making an impact on the offensive line, Matt has made a move from
left guard to left tackle and enters his senior season listed
second on the depth chart among returnees...walk-on addition to the
Tech roster, he spent his first season as a redshirt and the past
three year seeing limited action, mostly because of injuries...had
solid credentials during his high school career and has the
potential and desire to become an impact player for the Golden
Eagles.
AT TECH (In 2010): Matt was settling into his
role at left guard, playing in the first three games, when a knee
injury put an early end to the season.
(In 2009): An injury kept Matt on the sidelines for the
middle part of the season...he played in the first two games of the
year and returned to action for the final two games...filled a
backup role at guard.
(In 2008): Saw limited action in the offensive line.
(In 2007): Matt was a redshirt for the Golden
Eagles as a walk-on in his first season.
HIGH SCHOOL: A four-year letterman and starter
while playing on both the offensive and defensive lines at Franklin
Road Academy...coached by David Tucker in his senior season...also
earned five letters on the wrestling team (heavyweight)...added his
talents to the track & field team, earning two letters while
competing in shot put and discus...a three-time all-region pick as
an offensive lineman and once as a defensive lineman...was the 2007
heavyweight Region champion...served as team captain of both
football and wrestling teams as a senior...on the mats, he posted a
combined 81-21 record with 69 pins in the past two seasons.
PERSONAL: The son of Mark and Dorothy
Mercy...full name is Matthew Scott Mercy...born November 1,
1988...enrolled in engineering.
